How long have you been with Goji? What is your role at the company?
I have been with Goji for about 15 months as a Senior Software Engineer, focusing on Front-End development. My daily work involves writing code for new features and bug fixes, while also helping shape the technical direction of my team's upcoming projects.
Give us the inside scoop – what are some of the unique aspects of working at Goji?
The culture and good work-life balance. Goji has a very inclusive culture which continues to evolve based on employee feedback. It's great being able to contribute to shaping the culture of a company!
What led you to a career in Software Development and how did you end up in the financial services industry?
It all started in my final year of high school, where I enrolled in a vocational IT course. I learnt the basics of many IT disciplines, from wiring ethernet cables to coding. I ended up loving programming and joined a small company as a software developer apprentice. From there I never stopped!
Goji is actually the first company I've worked with within the financial services industry. Before this, I worked in industries like real-state, HR, and enterprise resource planning (ERP). I guess I found an industry I really like!
What has your experience been like with working on your team?
I love how collaborative our team is. We've created a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas. The support we give each other is incredible - whether someone's facing a simple challenge or a complex problem, there's always a teammate ready to ideate and work through solutions together.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role and what are some of the unique challenges you face in this sector?
The most rewarding aspect is working with brilliant team members to solve interesting problems. The most challenging aspect is learning all about the finance sector acronyms and what they mean, given it’s a completely new industry for me.
What is your favourite memory from your time at Goji?
I would say my favourite memory is hanging out with teammates to play games every two weeks or so. On top of having a lot of fun, it’s a great way to get to know colleagues on a deeper level.
What was your dream job as a child?
My dream job as a child was to be a veterinary doctor. I’ve always loved being around pets, but when I realised the job would also include some sad moments, I gave up on that idea!
What would you do if you had unlimited free time?
I would spend my time playing video-games, building mechanical keyboards, making music, exploring different cities, and walking in nature!
Any fun projects on the horizon? What are you and your team up to next?
My team has been working on some architectural changes to our domain. These changes will better accommodate customer needs and provide a more robust system to support Goji’s growth as we scale!
