How long have you been with Goji and what is your role at the company?
I’ve been at Goji for just over a year now and I sit on our commercial team as a Business Development Executive.
Give us the inside scoop – what are some of the unique aspects of working here?
There are so many unique elements to working at Goji, which is one of the reasons I chose to apply for a job here.
One aspect is that Goji gives you the ability to drive your own role and pathway forward. Since becoming a part of the Euroclear group, our company has done a lot of growing. Yet, despite this growth, we are still able to maintain our dynamic working environment, allowing for autonomy where needed and the freedom to really steer our own individual work. Having this level of trust within a company is very rewarding, and being surrounded by hard working and passionate individuals on a day to day basis motivates you to want to give more every day.
What led you to a career in business development and how did you end up in the financial services industry?
Great question! It was a path I never really considered when I was younger, having taken an interest in biology and sport, and eventually completing a degree in International Relations and Spanish. To delve deeper into this niche, my interests at university were in defence, security and geopolitics!
However, having grown up all around the world, learning to build relationships and communicate in ways beyond language, I found that my real strengths and interests were with people and the way the world works. This realisation led me to search for a role that combines my passion for people with an industry that impacts the world we live in.
What has your experience been like with working on your team?
I have been very lucky to join a driven and dedicated team where collaboration is highly valued, rather than the ‘every person for themselves’ mindset you sometimes find in commercial environments.
Coming into the team with limited financial knowledge, the team has been very patient and supportive, allowing me to learn through teamwork and observation. Equally important, however, has been the level of independence my team has given me to explore both the role and the industry by myself, building my own network and pushing my own limits.
I have also had the pleasure of working alongside various teams at Euroclear. Having the opportunity to be a part of a leading global financial market infrastructure, gaining exposure to the entire investment lifecycle, and helping to grow the alternatives arm of the funds business has all been really valuable experience for me.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role and what are some of the unique challenges you face in this sector?
I’d say that the most rewarding aspect of my role has been witnessing the growth of our product within the private markets and alternatives industry. At Goji, we have a dedicated team that works extensively to perfect our product, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the market. Being able to represent and sell our product with the backing of Euroclear is incredibly gratifying. I also find building long-lasting relationships within the industry and seeing our product’s impact and expansion very fulfilling.
However, the sector also presents unique challenges. The market is constantly changing and can be unpredictable, which requires us to stay agile and adapt quickly. The long timelines associated with deals can be demanding, but these challenges also drive our commitment to quality and innovation.
What is your favourite memory from your time at Goji?
There are so many to choose from!
The one at the forefront of my mind is from our most recent summer party. After an afternoon of games and catching up, the Goji employees took to the stage as karaoke came out to play. I was naive to think the talent of our company was limited to our office hours and, to be honest, I’ve never heard a rendition of Mr Brightside quite like it.
What was your dream job as a child?
Being a Business Development Executive at Goji, of course!
Jokes aside, I had a few different dream jobs growing up. I dreamed of becoming an Olympic athlete - LA 2028, here I come. I also dreamed of becoming an RAF Red Arrows pilot, which I will let you look up yourself, and a physiotherapist!
What would you do if you had unlimited free time?
I would travel the world over and over again. I have such a passion for understanding the way the world works and experiencing the richness of different cultures, it would be something I could never get bored of.
Any fun projects on the horizon? What are you and your team up to next?
One of the most exciting aspects of our work is harnessing Euroclear’s global reach to dive into new markets like APAC and LATAM. The alternative funds world holds so much untapped potential, and we’re committed to understanding the unique demands of these regions and how we can best support growth.
Really, this is just the beginning of our journey.
